Arbanija is a small village with only five hundred inhabitants, located on the north side of Ciovo Island. The village is focused on tourism and is ideal for a relaxing vacation. Guests can find accommodation in private houses where the owners have decorated apartments for rental. Arbanija also has numerous villas with a large number of apartments that were built for rental purposes and for providing accommodation to tourists during their vacation or for owners own vacation or summer holidays. restaurant. The most positive feature for tourism development in Arbania is its location. It is located only several kilometers from Trogir and some fifteen kilometers from the airport. Local buses drive to Trogir once an hour, and more frequently in the summer, enabling guests to enjoy the beauty of the nearby Trogir, Split or Kastela, or relax in the sun by the sea. Arbanija is the location of medieval Dominican Monastery of St. Cross from the 15th century. Monastery was one of the Dominican centers in Dalmatia. However, it lost its friars. parish seat. Monastery and Arbanija are tightly connected. In Medieval Ages, when the Monastery was built, Albanian families moved to this area as farming workforce (what the name Arbanija is derived from). Monastery is surrounded by the air of another curiosity. In 1600, the Christ's crucifix bled and the event has since been honored by many pilgrims, especially on Good Friday. As all small villages by the sea, Arbania also turned to fishing, or squid fishing to be more exact. Arbanija squid fishing contest is a tradition, and as many as 45 teams have been known to participate in the contest in which squid is caught solely by "peskafondo" technique. The teams can catch as much as 8 kilos of squid per team. The squid that is caught is then prepared in different ways and presents a real attraction for tourists and local visitors.
