Low forest on the west side of the island and large arable field inland is why Solta is considered the green pearl of the Adriatic. It is no surprise then that the main village on the island, Grohote, is located inland and not by the sea. Although a small village, Grohote has a post office, medical office with helipad, fire departments, police station and school. Other places that we should mention include: Rogac - the main harbor that connects Solta to Split, Necujam, Stomorska and the only village on the west side of Solta - Maslinica - surrounded by seven amazing islets. Maslinica has the popular hotel

Martinis Marchi, located in a historical castle. Necujam is known for its apartment resort and many coves that surround it. Sailors also find these coves interesting. Of course, locals offer accommodation in private apartments and villas in all of the island villages. Walking, biking, touring coves by boat and diving, possibilities are endless. Divers often call Solta the island of underwater surprises. Inhabitants are mostly focused on agriculture, fishing, olive growing and winemaking. The island's indigenous grape variety is dobricic, and variety plavac mali crni is the result

of blending dobricic with the Kastela variety crljenak. Plavac mali crni is the most significant Dalmatian variety used to make ardent red wine. People of Solta are also excellent olive growers and they are especially proud of their extra virgin olive oil that visitors can taste in many organized tastings around the island. Solta is also an island with typical Mediterranean plants, lavender, rosemary, basil and oregano; it is the island of fig trees, carob and rose hip. What is especially attractive about this island are the unexplored, solitary beaches on the south side of the island or somewhat more cultivated, and also more crowded, beaches on the north side of the island, with good connections to mainland. Solta is not an island of crazy parties; it is an oasis for all those who wish to enjoy the Mediterranean as it once was.
