Orebic is the largest town on the Peninsula of Peljesac. It was named after the noble family of Orebic; a family of nautical captains from the 16th century. The settlement was previously named Trstenica, which is the name of the main beach, soccer stadium and the creek in Orebic today. Municipality of Orebic has 14 settlements and approximately 4500 inhabitants. The town of Orebic itself has about 2000 inhabitants. transit point. It is located approximately 110km from Dubrovnik. Orebic is known as the town of captains that has always lived from and for the sea. The shipyard in Orebic, that Emperor Franz Joseph personally opened, is where sailing ships were built. Traditional activities of this area, apart from shipbuilding, were olive growing and wine production, especially growing famous vine varieties such as dingac and postup. During a visit to Orebic, one should certainly visit the Maritime Museum with rich local heritage. The nearby villages of Zukovac and Bilopolje hold the remains of feudal houses.
