Pakostane is a small Dalmatian village in the very centre of the Adriatic Coast with unique location between the sea and Vrana Lake (Vransko jezero). It is located 35km from Zadar and 5km from Biograd. In the Roman times, this area was the port of the Roman city of Asseria, and remains of Roman settlements and villas of rich Roman patricians can still be seen today. It is important to mention the settlement of Vrana that played the key role in Croatian history. This was the location of a fort and the Benedictine Monastery that was later taken over by Templars, and then Ivanovci. The story of the

a combination of versatile landscapes: coastline with rich archipelago, Mediterranean swamp with unique ecosystem and rural idyll of hinterland settlements. Swimming enthusiasts can visit pebble, rocky and paved beaches. Fishing village and tourist destination Drage is located nearby, also offering apartments and vacation houses, as well as islets of Babuljas, Veliki skolj and St. Justina that one can swim to. The islets are ideal for nudists. Island of Vrgada is also popular and it is connected to Pakostane by ferry. Other than island tranquility and pine shade, one can also find golden sandy beaches here. The famous Croatian Homeland War general, Ante Gotovina, grew up in Pakostane.
