phenomenon in Istria and Dinara karst. River Pazincica ends its aboveground flow in the Pazin Cave and forms two underground lakes. Castle of Pazin and Pazin Cave inspired the famous writer, Jules Verne, to use Pazin as the setting for a large part of his novel Mathias Sandorf, written in 1885. Heroes of Verne's novel are trapped in the Castle of Pazin and manage to escape to the Pazin Cave and follow its underground passages all the way to Lima Canal where they finally see the light of day. Other than plunging into the Pazin cave, on the north side Pazincica enters the Pazin basin and forms smaller and larger cascade waterfalls in this karst terrain. The most attractive areas are Pazinski krov and Zarecki krov where one can go for a swim in the summer. Hotel Lovac is located in Pazin, and other than in the hotel, accommodation is also available in apartments and rooms of family houses, villas and vacation houses in Pazin and its surroundings.
