Podaca is a small village with somewhat less than seven hundred inhabitants. It consists of three hamlets: Viskovica vala, Kapec and Ravanje. Today's village developed after the big earthquake of 1961, when people were unable to continue living in the houses that were torn down. Gornja Podaca (Upper Podaca) or the Old Village is all but abandoned today, but it seems as if the settlement existed in its place as early as the Stone Age. Unusual stone items were recovered in the area, such as wheat beating mallet. There are old tombs from the time of Illyrians (tumuli), remains of vases and silver
