Everyone you ask will tell you that Porec is one of the most famous tourist destinations, not only in Istria but in all of Croatia. It is located on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and sea. The old town of Porec should certainly be visited. A walk around the old town will surprise the visitors with its various historical segments. The town still has a Roman street structure, making it possible to walk on what were once main streets Cardo Maximus (north-south) and Decumanus Maximus (east-west). The Roman squares Marafor and Forum have the remains of

former temples and many of the houses and palaces from past times have been preserved. Romanesque Kanonika, Romanesque commoner's house, House of Two Saints, and Franciscan church (remodeled in Baroque style in the 18th century) were all built in the 13th century. Today, the Franciscan church holds the ceremonial hall of the Istrian parliament. The historic core is dominated by Gothic palaces. About fifteen of them have been preserved. The Regional Museum of Porec Heritage is located in the Baroque palace Sincic from the 18th Century. The towers for the defense of the city were built in the

15th Century. Two towers have been preserved: the round tower (currently a coffee shop) and a pentagon tower (currently a restaurant). The 6th century Euphrasian Basilica is also located in the old town core and is the most important historical site in Porec. Preserved wall and floor mosaics from the 4th, 5th and 6th centuries will thrill any visitor. Porec Riviera is annually visited by as many as half a million tourists. The guests can find accommodation in about 30 hotels and bungalows, 10 apartment resorts, 5 camps and family lodging houses along the coast. There are plenty of apartments in Porec and its surroundings not to leave any guest wanting. Popular Istrian vineyards (and wines) with Beredine Cave below them (near the village of Nova Cas), tourist resorts Plava and Zelena laguna (Blue and Green Lagoon) and the local night club Byblos should certainly be a part of one's experience.
