Nine kilometers east of Supetar there is Postira. Nice pebbled beaches and numerous coves, that are typical of the entire Island of Brac, have also been good for the development of tourism in this area. Numerous apartments and villas in Postira and the neighboring villages of Splitska and Pucisca await their guests readily and with determination. Focus on tourism is also reflected in several Postira hotels: Lipa, Vrila and Pastura, all four star hotels. One of the coves here does stand out though. Name Postira is derived from the Latin word pasture, meaning pasture as this area has fertile ground with rich vegetation that is also suitable for sheep grazing of the Brac sheep pramenka (type of sheep). Postira is adorned by many nice stone Renaissance houses and remains from the Roman times. It is interesting that in this age of financial crisis Postira does not have any unemployed people. Other than providing accommodation service and apartment rentals Postira also has developed fishing, agriculture and even industrial activities. In the proximity of Postira is the location of Sardina - fishing and fish processing plant. During Postira Summer, locals and their guests can enjoy cultural and entertainment program, and on Day of St. John the Baptist, a large celebration is organized in the village. Together with other specialties, local also serve hrapocusa - a special cake without which one's stay in Postira would not be complete.
