historical remains of Fortica fortress. People visit these islands due to tranquil warm sea in the Canal, especially at the end of the summer when the southern wind jugo makes sailing out on the open sea difficult. Turanj was first mentioned in the 13th century as Toretta, a name given to it after the fortress (lat. Turis - tower) that is preserved in one part of Kastel. Our Lady of Carmel, saint that is especially celebrated. Tukljaca is an archeological site and a local cemetery with the Church of St. Mary. This area was the site of the 13th century Tukljacane village. It had sunk 3 centuries later when the sea level rose. During the ebb tide one can see the foundations of houses, breakwater that the merchant ships used for docking and a rare mill that was powered by sea currents. The combination of restaurants, coffee shops and modern houses with the old centre and the main street Kontrara is the ideal combination of old and new. Turanj offers accommodation in private rooms, apartments and several motor camps. Apartments in Turanj stretch along the long coastline and are almost connected with apartments in the surrounding places (Sv. Petar na moru in the north and Sv. Filip i Jakov in the south). Turanj coast is full of small harbors - breakwaters where locals can anchor their boats, as well as small tourist yachts.
